Saving you or saving myself?

Now I finally realize what does "giving way for love" means. When you like someone and your bestfriend like her too, you rather let him get her even thought you like her alot too. At the same time, the girl also like you but because you wanna give way for your friend, you pretend to be evil to the girl. This time, the girl will blame the guy. Hating him, and so does the best friend to you and so does the girl to you.. So the question now.. Is it a wise move to give way for love? I have no idea.. ^^
